Reframing childhood: an overview of the British Academy Childhood Policy Programme

The article provides an overview of the conclusions reached by British Academy Childhood Policy Programme in its final report. programme explored role state childhood and how children are conceptualised policy-making. aim was to apply inter-disciplinary social sciences humanities lens order reframe debates around policies encourage a more consistent integrated approach them. first sets policy wider political context, noting significant variation between different parts UK. It then explores three key themes that emerged from project’s phase: tension conceptualising as time ‘being’ ‘becoming’; children’s rights; voices participation. In each case diversity among inequalities they face is emphasised. concludes with set principles derived analysis designed debate.
